Which five countries in order have the most fighter aircraft?  I'm referring to active only, not including stored.

Do you mean total planes, navy planes, or only air force planes?

I think India should rank 4th. Anyway the total number isn't so impressive. China has a bunch of J-7 and India still has a bunch of Mig-21s. PAF is also quite large, possibly bigger than RAF or Luftwaffe. But PAF should still have some J-5s in service, that's already redicilous.

I'd lean towards US, Russia, China, Israel, India.

Israel has the most F-16 Fighting Falcons outside the US. I think the IAF (Israel) has close to 400 fighter aircraft if I remember correctly.

Your right RecceJet on the amount of F-16's Isreal has (give or take a few).

I also stumbled upon a article on China's fighter aircraft.

Hi
First of all i would like to salute the all world of army because we should be understand how much of life they are survived to protect us. I don't think that we should be compare any force in matter of power. According to me every force has a different strategy to fight either it belongs to Air force, Navy and Military. So we can say that we should be have only Air fighter.

US, China, Russia... Russia downsized a lot over the past decade, China didn't... still lots of J-7/8s on strength.

North Korea and Taiwan, and also Turkey maybe, come before Israel, on paper...
