Yeah, OK, it's an old topic, but it's also a dumb, implausible question.
Do you think a pilot is told something like "We don't know if this building is a school for mentally gifted, physically handicapped, impoverished, hungry, environmentally concsious children of single parents, OR Bin Laden's hideout" , but we'd like you to destroy it"? Come on!!
A better question would be-- "This building is BOTH a school and hospital for such kids, AND Bin Laden is there too, would you bomb it"?
Pilots almost always follow orders, and orders do not usually include such dilemnas (for good reason). Also, modern planes usually fly too high and fast for a pilot to discriminate between, say, children and squatting adults, or pregnant women and weapons-laden enemies. Is that a man carrying a section of water pipe for his well, or is that a MANPADS-toting terrorist?
