We talked about 'normal' press making mistakes when it comes to aircraft. I just stumbled onto this:
http://www.time.com/time/potw/2005_viewers_choice/
Photo 6 display a nice photo of the Russian Knights, flying their display, in yes... Su-27s
What does the caption say, yup..."MIG-29 jet-fighter" (of course not MiG-29...as it should say anyway... but well)
Probably the photographer is a 'normal' press photographer as well, who even doesn't know what he is shooting...?
If anyone of them, would have taken the time to look up the display team name, they would maybe also found the correct aircraft type.

The two biggest things standing out (apart from everything else! :P ) are the wing-tip rails and the "stinger". Any good bookshop will have a Janes aircraft regonition guide with outlines showing these features that stand out like the proverbial :-\ We trust reporters for correct info, makes you wonder what other things they report incorrectly where we don't know any better :-[
