Heads up on sky high prices for cut price airlines
« on: September 10, 2009, 03:12:28 AM »
Cut price airlines are not as cheap as you think.

With the growth of low cost carriers, many services that travellers once took for granted are now a source of what the airlines call "incremental revenue?. That means in English that you can end up paying a lot more than the face value of the ticket.
Examples.

Food and drink. Add $15 for dinner and $7.50 for wine.

Entertainment.  Add $5 to $20

Luggage.  Tiger and Jet star do not include a baggage allowance. Expect to pay $80 for 20kg with Tiger and $100 for Jetstar.

Exit row seats Add $25 for domestic and $100 for International.

Allocated seating. Add $5.

Enjoy your flight.

Most of the U.S. airlines are charging $20.00 per bag (limit 2 50lb bags) and food is purchase only. My last flight had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for $6.00!!!

Well the name of the game is to get 'bums on seats' Aard. This cut price airline advertised cheap prices for just that and have filled the planes ever since.

Been on some cheap EasyJet, Transavia, but most importantly RyanAir flights few years back. Since then travelled with some more traditional airliners if you will. It's just great, leg room, friendly cabin crew, and that worthless meal and drink you sometimes get, might not seems like much, but it really 'breaks' up longer flights. And with the battle on, they've also cut their prices. Finally, you arrive at a proper airport with proper connections and facilities, and not 100km/60miles from your destination having to take a Bus or very expensive long taxi ride.

I'm basically done with RyanAir especially. Gimme my leg room and 20kg back, or I will never fly RyanAir again, especially not when it means additional travel to/from those remote airports. And those cheap prices... yeah if you book 3 months in advance, wait a few more weeks to pick your date and your tickets costs 2x as much, same as the "expensive" carriers.
