HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales expected to enter service in 2014 & 2016.
Expected to be the largest aircraft carriers out side of the US, displacing about 75,000 tonnes.
UK will get 2, France will get 1.

The ship will have two islands: one devoted to ship navigation, and the other to air operations. This allows optimal placement of bridges for both tasks: navigation calls for a bridge placed forward (as on the Charles De Gaulle), while air operations are made easier with a bridge placed abaft (as seen on the US Nimitz class). Confirm: Both or just French

Max 40-50 fighters per carrier, more than most countries operate, but only about half of the aircraft on the Nimitz class carriers. Still pretty good for the UK and France. Big projects though, I wouldn't be surprised if they will add up 5 years delay until going operational... ;)

I'm suprised. Didn't the UK cancel its new carrier project some time ago due to high costs?

France is sharing the costs this time, so maybe they restarted it again because their not paying for the whole thing themselves?

The contract for these vessels was announced on 25 July 2007 by the Secretary of State for Defence Des Browne, ending several years of delay over cost issues and British naval shipbuilding restructuring.
I haven't seen any big changes in plans since then?
