The Trinidad and Tobago coast guard is to receive up to $2 Billion TTD worth of equipment. The Prime Minister revealed today that tenders for 3 OPV each worth half a billion closed on the 6th July 2005. The coast guard is also to obtain 4 armed helicopters, two of which have already been ordered. The additional funding is to be used to purchase 6 fast interceptor boats.
The equipment is to be used for patrol to reduce drug and firearm smuggling, force projection, and humanitarian missions in the Eastern Caribbean.
