MILAVIA: Please rate my website's Speed!?
« on: May 07, 2006, 04:19:30 AM »
I want to know what you guys think of the loading speed of my website. I am considering to move to a dedicated or Virtual Private Server for more space, bandwidth and speed. I noticed that Alexa rated it as slow. I always thought it was pretty good. What do you think?

I have no issues with the speed at which this website loads compared to any other site I visit. I use FireFox and I've used a "tweak" that loads all pages much faster than Internet Explorer does. The tweak basically opens web pages up to 30 times faster by establishing multiple connections to the page.

Quote
1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

  • network.http.pipelining
  • network.http.proxy.pipelining
  • network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

I have no problems with the speed. Loads instantly, using  2Mbs broadband.  :)
