Building J35F Draken Scale 1/72
« on: January 15, 2010, 02:39:27 PM »
Well, i was bored out of my mind. So i decided to build a model. Its not the first time im building this model, but im thinking of adding my own details to make it more realistic.

LOL! Now that was the plan. Reality struck and i realised that its no use with a small model like this one. So now it will only be built and painted, but in the latest F10 scheme. The one i built before had the old green and aluminium paintjob.

Anyway here are some of the first pictures.

The basic model unpainted. Got rid of the ejector marks by sanding them.

Some basic painting, making sure the colours are correct.

Yeah, my worktable is a mess. Lots of projects going on. Most of the parts have got their basic painting.

I hate watching paint dry......  :P

The basic paintjob is done.

Got more parts in place. Unfortunatly not all the pieces fit very well together.

Oh yes, the model is manufactured by Revell. Just in case anyone wondered.

Nice photos. You're taking pictures as you're putting it together? I like this!

Thanks!

Yup, i though i would document the building process of this easy model. I always thought its kind of fun to compare the out-of-the-box product with the finished version one have built.  ;D

I've always loved Drakens. I remember my first trip to Europe in the early 80s to train with our NATO brethren, and seeing my first Draken fly overhead. That beautiful Double-Delta wing, so gracefully banking overhead before landing. It was love at first site! I made it a point to hang out with those guys so I could see more and learn more about that jet. It was SO wonderfully different from anything I had ever seen before. I remember joking about getting a job at the National Test Pilot School in California because they supposedly had a half dozen Drakens they were flying as civilians and it would be they ONLY way I could work on them (Unless I moved to Sweden, Denmark or Finland).

Yeah F-111! Nice to hear that you liked the Draken and have seen it in action.  The Draken belongs among the true classics and it looks great in the air. I have a soft spot for it, but not as big as for the Viggen. LOL! PS, you forgot to mention Austria.  ;)

Ok, here we have an experiment. I tried to create an aluminium body, just for fun. But i did not have any more then that piece.

After some more glueing, sanding and painting.

I used some of that aluminium to make the rims for the tires. Note, i dont have any paint at home that can simulate aluminium, it was all dried up. Did not have time to buy more before the weekend.  :-\

How you Swedes got that plane to fly so fast with that little, tiny propeller, is a mystery to me!!

That's the problem with modelling... stupid paint.

I wanted to get on with my 1/72 Viggen, but next step is the splinter camo... argh!
