That's the problem with modelling... stupid paint.

I wanted to get on with my 1/72 Viggen, but next step is the splinter camo... argh!

Tape and alot of patience, then the splinter camo is done. Just that easy.  I will never do a splinter camo again on a 1/72 scale Viggen. It nearly drove me insane.

Forgive my ignorance but what is 'splinter' camo?

I meant the Viggen's woodland camo, not sure if it's really considered 'splinter' like on the Flankers. The thing is that is has sharp edges, most camouflage doesn't.

I never managed to make an exact copy of Viggens livery. If you need a good picture of how to make the original, then i have a "detailed blueprint" on how the livery looks and were the colours should go. Let me know if you would like to have a copy of it.

Not done to much work on the Draken. But now it starts to look like an aircraft, still there is a long way to go before its finished.

Thank you! For the first time im am actually trying to get a model to look weathered. So i am struggling a bit, because of my lack of skill in this area.

So to those who are following my progress, dont expect the final model to look like artwork. LOL!

It's been a while, and I just looked at some of my 1/72 stuff, I did a bit, but it's all in poor shape to show examples. There are two techniques right... not considering airbrush. Wet: Using a lot of thin darker paint and a clean big brush to remove the excess paint, good for 'dirtyness' or shading. Or dry: use a tiny bit of lighter or metal paint and a big brush, good for wear, brings out the details.
I preferred to use oil paint for it, as it's easier to 'brush out' and give 'direction', especially for exhaust dirt. It dries slow, so also easy to brush off. It needs to dry for ages before you can touch it again.

Well, i could not postpone it any longer. I just had to get the model finished. Definitely not my best work.

Yeah the model... if I allowed to say what's wrong with it, looks like the paint was too thick or applied in too many layers, 1/72 isn't big of course. I'd say it's a common problem with 1/144 and 1/72 models. The paint tends to ruin the "fine scale" look. I've got some myself too, never finished them, threw some away actually because the paint made it look so bad. I hate painting, it's the most difficult thing and can make or break a model, no matter how you carefully sanded, glued and master-detailed it.

But I understand, just having some fun with a 1/72 build, then you can't be bothered to airbrush or use thinner, just want to finish it.

Uhm, also, looks like it wasn't the best J35 model on the market either...?
