Title: Start Things Off
Post by: Goose on April 23, 2005, 03:13:51 PM
To start things off in this section I though I would post a short dialogue of model building experience so we can get to know everyone involved in the site and hobby.

I mostly build 1/48th aircraft and 1/400 ships.
I started 13 years ago with a 1/72 B-25A Mitchell
I've since built in 1/48th SBD Dauntless, F-6F Hellcat, F-15C, AH-64A, F-101B, F/A-18A, Learjet 24D, P-61, UH-1C, A-10A, AV-8B, F-105D, SH-2F, A-6E, F-4J, Spifire MK21, F9F-5, F-117A, F-14A, F-8E, B-29, F-14D.
In 1/72 I built
F-4, YF-22.

Currently awaiting my attention is a 1/72 alpha jet, 1/48th F-4G, F-16A
Resources are pretty slim and expensive in Trinidad. Kits typically cost 120TTD ($20 US)

I've gotten to a skill level where they come out pretty pleasing.
How about the rest of you?

Sorry forgot to mention my naval fleet :D

I have in 1/400th USS Dallas, USS Long Beach, USS Arizona
in 1/500th USS North Carolina
in 1/700th USS Nimitz, USS Manchester, USS New Jersey

Okay, here is my list. Pretty useless, but anyway:

1/24
Ferrari Testarossa - 10% built

1/48
F-16 Fighting Falcon - unbuilt
Su-25 Frogfoot - unbuilt
F-80 Shooting Star - unbuilt

1/72
AJ 37 Viggen - half-built
Tornado IDS - half painted
C-47 Skytrain - half painted
UH-1B Huey - completed
FW-190 - completed and broken
Spitfire - completed and broken

And I've ruined a whole bunch of 1/144 fighters. As you can see I was just getting started, when I gave up on the hobby. Mostly due to lack of time and dedication, and also a non-functioning airbrush.

Well, I've been building the little ones since I was a little one myself...about 35 years I guess... :o
I've only been serious about it for the last five or so and I'm still getting better...still not entirely pleased with the stuff I do.
I currently contribute to 2 magazines, SAMI and the new Model Aircraft Magazine.
I really couldn't tell you how many or what I've built, just too much of the stuff, but on the work bench at the moment are A P-40E and a T-38 Talon both 1/48th ( favourite scale).

Webmaster sir, you've got to get that airbrush working, it's the only way to get good reults.

Hey webmaster are you intending to complete the unbuilt or interested in selling them?

I think I'll keep them, maybe I'll get a period of sickness, unemployment or without internet somewhere in future and will get back at it.  ;)

Why? Are you interested in buying?

Hello Guys,

I'm not really a modelling type,  ;D but I have a lot of aircraft from the absolutely awsome crafted "Jetfighter collection", from the Metal Armour collection. They are absolutely awsome in detail, and also very detailed are the helmets you can buy with them.

But as allready said, these are not handmade.......wel, exept for the standard it is standing on.... ;) ;D
But for me a very nice collection aircrafts for a reasonable price.

Hope you enjoy.
Best Regards.

Don't worry, the name 'Tomcatters' outdates the Tomcat. Back in 1948 VF-31 was established with the name, based on its Felix the Cat mascot. They inherited Felix from earlier squadrons.

I mostly built jets in scale 1/72.

F4 Phantom
J53 Draken
JA37 Viggen
J29 Tunnan
Spitfire
A4 Corsair
F18 Hornet

And then there was three in scale 1/48.

F14/A Tomcat
F16 Falcon
JA37 Viggen (This is the only one i saved).

The PAF received 28 F-16As and 12 F-16Bs, permitting the formation of three squadrons. No.11 Squadron Arrows at Sargodha acted as the F-16 OCU, and was followed by Nos 9 Griffins and 14 Shaheens squadrons. No 14 Squadron is unique in being based at Kamra. Plans to acquire further F-16s were frustrated by a US arms embargo. They were delivered to navy and air force aggressor units recently. Pakistan's F-16 Block 15s have scored at least eight victories over Soviet and Afghan aircraft crossing the border. This F16A was flown by Flight Lieutenant Khalid of No. 14 Squadron when he scored the third of his three aerial victories. He used an AIM-9L to pick off a single Afghan air force Su-22 (flown by a Cpt. Hashim) which failed to turn back over the border with the rest of his formation.
The Images credit goes to OMER who lives in TURKEY.

I build mostly 1/48 and 1/72. I've got to many kits in the stash too list them all here (at last count nearly 600 kits). Currently I'm working on the old Monogram 1/48 MiG 15, an Academy 1/72 P-40N, Monogram 1/48 AT-6. I'll be starting a Monogram 1/48 P-51D before the end of the week, time permitting.

Ah, I know that one, my dad has it. Because of the bad state of the decals (because of the kit's age), he decided to paint it red first, then put the red arrow decals on it, and then paint it silver and remove the decals. However being an inactive modeller as myself, the kit now stands on 2 out of 3 gear legs in an overal red  :P

:-\ It was my first paint, and I painted it with aerosol, definitely not apropiated for models, but we were still proving...and the model was old... :P Oh, and besides that, the canopy was not in the kit.
You may lugh, but what if I told you I was trying to do the Ukranian camo??.....

Dont get me wrong Globe, i was just reffering to the missing part. They usally end up looking like that when they seen "combat", angry younger siblings.  ;)

My younger brother usally dropped my models down the stairs if he got really angry with me. So they tend to miss several parts, just check out my Viggen.  :-\

I know I get it...Yes, I lost my Tomcat on "combat" :-\ It was 1/48 :( and also a Mirage F-1 1/100... Both of them unpainted. I have three younger siblings.... and they used to fight a lot. Not that they don't fight now, but they know they can't mess with my models >:D
