Everyone, if you could build your own ultimate jet fighter, using any one of today's aircraft from any country, what would it be?  You can mix and match engines and airframes, weapons, radars, hardpoints, PROVIDING it  can be done from an engineering standpoint. (For example, you can't stick a Mig-31 engine in a Gripen or you'll change the entire airframe - same goes for radars, guns, weapons, etc. )  You can give it your own name also.

Please do your research - you have to name the airframe, the engine(s), radar, and weapons.  Then we'll all take a vote on whose fighter is the ULTIMATE FIGHTER!!!

Airframe: SAAB JA37 Viggen
Radar: Long range Ericsson PS-05/A multi-mode, pulse doppler radar.  (Same as Gripen)
Engine: Volvo RM8B with just small modifications that improve it. Or the engine from F15E Eagle, The Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229. But im not sure of its dimensions. But if it fits then this is the engine i want.
Avionics: MIL-STD 1553B (Also the same as Gripen).

Update the front canards to work as Gripens, so they work in flight not just during take off and landing.  Triplex, digital fly-by-wire Flight Control System, HOTAS. Change some of the structure to more lightweight material. Update the weapons-software and hardpoints on the airframe, so it can carry the American phoenix-missile and other weapons made and used by Nato.

New name: JAS 37A Super-Viggen  ;D

Airframe: Northrop B-2 Spirit
Radars: default
Engines: default
Avionics: default
Weapons: redesign current bomb-bays to multiple Vertical Launch Systelm (VLS) with modular launch canisters to take Python V and Meteor amongst others. Also retaining a small bomb-bay to carry AGM-142s and JDAMs internally since this feak-show airframe will probably catch its opponents on the ground.

All targeting information and missile guidance will be handled by AWACs or other airframes (refer to Tom Clancy stories) eliminating the need for my F/B-2 Spirit "I'm-Going-To-Crap-All-Over-Your-Air-Order-of-Battle" super-dooper fighter to light up any radars for target acquisition.

Additional pop-up launchers for Python V will be fitted along the wings to pop-up both above and below and have rotating turrets to take care of any stray opponent fighters.

Essentially, you could see this monster of a fighter aircraft as an aerial version of an Ohio class SSBN. It just flies into enemy airspace undetected and gives the opposition a bloody nose.

PS. I may have stretched the realm of reality a little to compensate for engineering shortcomings ;)

Airframe: F-15E Strike Eagle
Radars: AN/APG-77 from the F-22 Raptor.
Engines: Default F-15E engine
Avionics: CAPTOR ECR-90, again from the Typhoon.
Weapons: AIM-120C AMMRAMS, AIM-132, AIM-9 Sidewinder, AGM-88 HARM, AGM-65 Maverick AIM-54 Phoenix, MBDA Meteor, nuclear weapons,  ALARM, AIM-7 Sparrow, Mk. 82s etc. and same options as the F-15E Strike Eagle and Typhoon and 8 wing hardpoints and 2 hardpoints near the rear of the fuselage, and 2 wingtip hardpoints for AIM-9s, Python V,  and that equals 12 hardpoints for the munitions mentioned above as well as what the F-15E and Typhoon can carry.

It would have HOTAS, Helmet-Mounted Sight, IDFF, In-Flight refueling capable, can carry LANTIRN and TARPS (depending on the mission). Digital-control panel. If it is possible, I would modify the EJ200s to be thrust-vectoring. Digital air combat system. FLIR and DLIR. Modify the back to have rear-ward looking radar. It would have look-down shoot-down capability. It would be able to carry flares, chaff and have an ALQ-184 or ALQ-131 jamming pods...updated versions of my own.

New Name: F-34G Hawk II

Viggen, you definitely did your homework.

I tried to stick to what is available on the "market". Not make it into a "star trek-craft". Realism is what make this challenge so intresting. Also im  of curious of what you will come up with.  :)

Hey Cobra, I don't think the EJ200 has enough thrust for the F-15E.  The F-15E's P&W F100 provide 29,000 lbs of thrust each.  I believe the EJ200 provide 22,000 lbs of thrust each.  Correct me if I'm wroing please.

I thought that too ::)

But maybe he wants efficiency? Are the EJ2000 more efficient?

what do you say cobra?
