The EADS Mako looks promising with its weapon-system, top speed of mach 1.3 and stealth-technology. I think it migh give Gripen a good run for the money. (But secretly i hope it will be just to expensive to build this aircraft). 8)
Read about the Mako here:

no.. Gripen is a proper fighter.. the Mako is a trainer/light attacker.
-
There is a singelseater fighter version also. But you are right, the main purpuose is trainer/light attack :-\
-
pfft, i only read the first like 5 lines >:)
-
No worries, i just wanted to hear some oppinions. And like you, i preffer the Gripen. :)
-
Yeah Gripen all the way 8)
-
It is not the same thing. MAKO could even be a great light attack/trainer aircraft, but it hasn't got the Gripen's capabilities to fight, it just hasnothing to do...
-
man ill go gripen all the way fist of all looks
-
I was not just thinking of air to air combat, but the overall picture. Like countries in south america would probably find this as an intresting substitute for the F5 and perhaps cheaper then Gripen. :)
-
True.
-
Wouldn't it be more effective to replace the F-5s by some Chinese or Russian made aircrafts? I mean you can get them cheaper, their parts are cheaper and for the same money you can proably afford a better plane then a second class European fighter.

That is exactly what i think! :D (Russian aircrafts, don't know about chineese yet ;D)

Well, this is state of the art with stealth technology. Its just that the trend seems to be developing smaller and agile aircraft these days. Russian aircraft are not known for their small size and big twin-engined fighters cost alot of money to service, and the fuel-costs are pretty high.
Now im not trying to defend the Mako, i preffer to see the Gripen spread to all airforces around the world. ;D
-
I have to confess I prefer the MiG-29 for my FAA. That is not as big as you might think ;D (And I believe better than Gripen, sorry)

COME ON Globe the Gripen is way better and more modern aircraft ur plane would have a hard time w/ the Gripen
-
Haha yeah definitly 8)
And Viggen, I wouldnt mind having a Gripen for my countries airforce :)
-
The Gripen actually grows on you. The more you look at it and read about it, the more you start liking it. Its like a hybrid of three aircraft: JA37 Viggen, F16A and the F5E. Sure the Viggen looks much better and sounds great, but Gripen has the advantage in air to air-combat over it. :)
So of course Gripen will also be a better fighter then the Mako, since Makos main purpouse is to be a training aircraft. But still the Mako can steal customers around the world. It always comes down to politics and economics in the end. :)
-
I think the MAKO should be more worried of the Czech, Russians and Chinese (L-159, Yak-130, MiG-AT, K-8, FC-1) than the Gripen of competing with the MiG-29.
I don't see MAKO competing Gripen, maybe could have for the UK test pilot school, but Gripen already won that.
-
i think its more of a hybrid between a F-16 and a Mirage :)
-
Mmmmmm. Yeah, i agree that the Gripen is better. Any usage of the Mirage is useless.
