EADS signs 9.7 mln eur development accord with Hellenic Aerospace
ATHENS (Thomson Financial) - European defence and aeronautics group EADS and Greek aeronautics group Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI) said they signed a development agreement worth 9.7 mln eur in Athens today. Under the contract, EADS is to supply technological equipment and expertise enabling the Greek company to develop its activities in the field of aeronautical design. EADS said it hopes the contract will be the first stage towards an 'integrated partnership' between Greece and EADS' Eurofighter programme, Bernhard Gerwert, president of the air systems division said. The Greek government has been negotiating since 2000 an order for 60 fighter planes, but it has not yet decided whether to opt for the Eurofighter or another airplane. Gerwert said: 'We are inviting Greece to join the Eurofighter family. It would thus become the fifth European country in the programme. The door is now open'.
