F-111 C/C:
Lakenheath AB lost an F-15E Strike Eagle last night in Libya. It was flying missions out of Aviano AB, Italy. Both crew ejected safely but were separated due to a high altitude ejection. One has been recovered and the other is safe awaiting extraction. Officials say it was aircraft mechanical failure and not ground fire.

F-111 C/C:
The pics I have seen of the wreckage are remarkable in that the entire aircraft is contained in a small area as if it fell flat onto the ground which, I feel,  contradicts the 'high altitude' ejection statement unless it stalled and flat-spun all the way to the ground at a low rate of descent. I guess anything's possible.

SukhoiLover:
Mechanical failure or shot down ?

Either way, its good to know the pilots are going to be back in the cockpit  ;)

F-111 C/C:
Mechanical failure.
