Uzbek aircraft plant joins Russia's United Aircraft Corp.
06/02/2008 18:08 MOSCOW, February 6 (RIA Novosti) - The aircraft building plant in Uzbekistan's capital, Tashkent, has become part of Russia's United Aircraft Corporation, the Central Asian state's president said Wednesday.
Russia and Uzbekistan signed agreements Wednesday on cooperation in aircraft manufacturing and integration of the Tashkent plant into the United Aircraft Corporation, which incorporates Sukhoi and other leading Russian companies engaged in the manufacture, design and sale of military, civilian, transport, and unmanned aircraft.
"After the documents were signed, the plant became a part of the corporation," Islam Karimov said, calling the event "unprecedented."
"We see Russia not only as a country with a great culture. We see Russia's future in high technologies, in which it is investing money," Karimov said.
The Tashkent aircraft builder produces Il-76 Candid military transport planes and Il-114 airliners. The share of Russian aviation components in production exceeds 85%.
