Iranian F-14s

What's to happen to the Iranian Tomcats, now, seeing that USA is de-commisioning theirs and long ago cut off supply routes for spare parts?

They could keep a few and use the rest as spare parts, but won't that be highly unconventional? And with their russian fighters, maybe i could buy a Tomcat from them for a hundred bucks or so  ;D

MAYBE!!!

i suppose its a lucky thing that the Iranians cant maintain their F14s properly, otherwise a lot of planes would be at risk, considering the F-14s range and payload :o

Who's stupid idea? The US! And it wasn't stupid. When they sold the F-14s Iran was US friendly country who was in a need of such a plane. They also had orders on F-16, but non of them reached Iran before 1979 when the goverment changed.
And if I remember it right, then F-14s servered Iran very well in Iran-Iraq war in 1980s.

Now they have bunch of knock-off weapons in service, which is quite cheap for them and also they produce the weapondry themselfs now so in no way are they stupid. It's stupid to call them stupid.

If america sold them to Iran before the government changed, and the planes werent there, why not pull out of the deal?

Britain did it Australia, so whats the difference?

They pulled out of the deal with F-16 cause they weren't there yet, not F-14. It was too late for the 14.
