Mechanical fault forces Kevin Rudd's plane back to Washington

AUSTRALIAN Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's plane has been forced back to Washington DC because of a mechanical fault.                                             "Due to a minor mechanical fault, the prime minister's  RAAF plane has returned to Washington," a spokesman for Mr Rudd said.
"The Prime Minister will (stay) overnight in Washington, his return  to Australia has been delayed."
MrRudd was invited to Washington by US President Barack Obama to discussthe war in Afghanistan, climate change and the global economic downturn.
Hisvisit to the American capital, which was supposed to last less than 24hours, followed his trip to Trinidad and Tobago for the CommonwealthHeads of Government Meeting.
No further details were immediately available.
