You probably have a point there. But you guys knew what i mean and the pics put up is of afterburners not bases so, no harm done.  :)

Oh yeah, I wasn't trying to say anything. Just that it took me 2 pages to understand you meant Burners and not bases.  ;)

I can only speak for US Military bases, but it's always abbreviated as AFB

Air Force Link

Must be like Aeroplane and airplane  ;D

Yup, when I first opened this topic I also thought it was about Air Force Bases. AB is Air Base, for the US military that's a different thing than an AFB, because AB is commonly used for foreign airbases. One of the few exceptions being UK bases, the RAF calls their airbases stations, they just add RAF in front of the name. So you can have an USAF F-16 from AFB Edwards visit RAF Fairford in the UK before going on to Ramstein AB in Germany, yet all those are USAF bases.  :P  ::)

Personally I have never seen afb or AFB used for afterburner... only A/B or AB, would still have been confusing though :P

the only burners I get to see are at airshows, my local base as a noise abatement where planes can't use burners.. ::)

We had some F-16s stationed here while their ramp was being repaired and when Corey Little's plane crashed into the NYC Building they launched 4 Vipers out of here with FULL Burners. I work about a mile away and it was awesome hearing that sound ;D

Not sure if this guy was showing off or was a weight issue as he was the only 1 of the 6 ship that took off using burners

I like A/B or AB better.
