What they do is to throw some fuel from the plnae, and, as it is dumped by the pipe that is just over the engines, the fuel burns when the afterburners are on. Simple, and cool ;D

the after burners need to ignite the fuel.. so techinqaully, it is on afterburner but you cant see it :)

AFB is Air Force Base. =.=

AFB is in America.. Everywhere else its Air Base.. or defence establishment (ergh thats a sucky name.. stupid Austrialian Government >:( )

In magazines i usally see "afb" as short for afterburner, both in english and swedish ones. As for "Air force base", the short for that one is "AB".  Thought you guys knew this and seen it yourselfs in magz.  :-\

I can only speak for US Military bases, but it's always abbreviated as AFB

Haha. Yeah, I usually see AFB but maybe its different in other mags and stuff.
BTW, I've been recieving Aviation History and still have like 11 months left...its a nice one...the History Channel mag has a 'Dogfights' part...after its show 'Dogfights'.
