Maybe we should make the top 10 thing so you have planes from Russia, Europe and the US, like, you HAVE to have planes from each in your top 10

Not only that, the question was: Top 10 Modern Military Aircraft. So we assume "modern" means the jet age? What about non-jet aircraft that appeared after WW2? We need to define "modern" if people want to get picky about the little details.

Also "Aircraft" denotes everything that flies, not just fixed-wing, manned aircraft. Helicopters and UAVs fall under the category of aircraft too.

The list would start to get quite big if we list all our favourite 10 rotary-wing, fixed-wing and unmanned aircraft for each country.

I think that the pourpose was understood. Or at least I did. You have to chose 10 aircraft you like the most, trying not to fall in the same Su-27 F-14 F-22 thing ::)

There would be a problem posed however with that approach: If we exclude the most "famous" fighters, we fall upon localized or aircraft made "heroes" for some reason. For example, american people wouldn't know or love the Mirage III because they never saw it in action. Similarly, most europeans wouldn't even remember what an A-7 was, an aircraft that every Vietnam War pilot adored. The same goes for the Kfir. Israelis love it cause it's theirs, Peruvians cause it helped them during their conflicts, but apart from that, the aircraft hasn't seen action in any big conflict or other places.

So the F-14, Su-27 etc. are famous for some reason, and there are some underdogs that were well known only locally, and I believe that most replies will be given with the "famous" jets only because with 5000 F-16s on the air today, and with it being on the news while used on every war the last 20 years,I think someone that likes airplanes must have noticed them at least 10 times :D

1. F-20 Tigershark- What a waste of a good design
2. F-15C- Best combo of weapons systems, engines, radar, and weapons, on a brute.  Sort of punches you in the face if you try to fight it.
3. Mig-29 - Good thrust not a aircraft you can overlook in the hands of a good pilot way underrated.
4. Kfir/Mirage 50- Big fan of these types to me a good solid step above the classic III model.  The French own the fighter world at this time.
5. Su-25 - One tough customer good range/payload for an aircraft of it's size
6. Mirage 2000 series - If France only drop their prices some and suck it up a little they might have doubled their sales overall.
7. Cobra attack helicopter - To me it all started from this beast
8. Flanker series
9.  F-16 - Could be rated higher but I'm from the US and can't go to the corner store without reading about one, seeing one, since I was in my teens.  Great aircraft does everything except slice bread.
10 F-111 & F-105 - Sorry to group them together both needed different versions to get better.   Take away the dumb rules the US had to follow most of time in the Vietnam war and their wouldn't have been too many Mig-19/21s left shooting tail shots at the mighty Thud's.  Talk about big and fast.

Left out a bunch
F-22 - Wow nothing in it's class
F-35 - Going to be much better then everybody thinks
F-117 - This aircraft change aviation as we know it and gets no love.   For almost 20+ years nothing touched it can you only imagine how good the F-22 must be?

2. F-15E Strike Eagle. I think most of you know my preference too.  ;D
3. Su-27 'Flanker' Yes, i do have a measure of liking for the russian a/c.
4. JAS-39 Gripen
5. Tu-22 Backfire
6. Ah-64D Apache Longbow
7. Ka-50 Werewolf
8. Harrier frs. 2
9. MiG-29. Hey, i'm one with the masses!
10. And of course the big and sleek B-1B Lancer.

No particular order there.

Yes, Grip, i think we all know what the subject is all about.

Lets wait a while before we finnaly compose the statistics, ja?
