Grumman Cats (If you're a Tomcat fan you might want to see this)

I'm been wanting to clarify on this. How many Grumman Cats are there EXACTLY?

I know the wildcat, the hellcat,, the tomcat, and some other dubious ones or nicknames in between. Anybody have clarification on the F-8?

Hello Raptor,

I think I'm one of the biggest fan's of the F-14 Tomcat alive 

So here a small list of all cats, that where produced by Grumman.
This also includes other cat species, like the Jaguar, etc, etc:

- F-4F Wildcat
- F-6F Hellcat
- F-7F Tigercat
- F-8F Bearcat
- F-9F Panther
- F-9 Cougar
- XF-10F Jaguar
- F-11 Tiger
- F-14 Tomcat

I don't know but I don't think the next Cat wil come up before 2030-2040-2050. Why? Because of the F-35. It will be used in the USMC and in the USN (where Grumman sells his Cats).

Just did some reading-apparently the Tomcat was supposed to be the very last one of all the Grumman naval cats. And the neat thing is that it's unique in more than just the fact it has the last cat name. It was to be the only var-geo wing naval fighter, among a lot of other things.

In the early 1990s Grumman Aerospace decided it had gotten too expensive to continue developing fighter and attack aircraft for the US armed services. Then Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney canceled the proposed A-6F, the A-12 still in development, and acquisition of the F-14D. Grumman saw the handwriting on the wall. Too bad. They'd had a combat plane under contract with the US Navy since WWI. So, I'd bet we've seen the last of the Cats.

Well, it's a pity, i'd say. The cats were one of the best fighters ever to fly.
