Vote for the officlal name for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter!

All you guys are TOO late...a name has been chosen already and that's the Lightning II, after the Lockheed's own P-38 Lightning of World War 2, so aptly called by the Germans "the fork-tailed devil".

Yeah we know, topic is older. But we are now selecting the unofficial name, like 'viper' for the F-16.

I think "Stingray" is an appropriate name, like the one that killed Steve Irwin.  Even though he was a professional and expert with animals, Steve was killed by a creature least likely  to be aggressive, the Stingray.  You can look at the Stingray's barb stinger as the "AMRAAM" missile - definitely able to reach out and "touch" someone, like the Crocodile Hunter.  It is a stealthy sea creature, able to hide itself on the ocean floor and not be detected.  And surely, the Stingray is a powerful creature, a fitting name for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.   WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

That's what I was trying to tell you guys - the name's been decided OFFICIALLY - the Lightning II - Webmaster said this is a vote for an unofficial name, like the F-16's official name is Fighting Falcon - it's also called the Viper.  The A-10 Thunderbolt II is affectionately called the Warthog.

I just thought about another name, for the RAF in particular, tornado, typhoon, tsunami... But I guess with the recent Tsunami disaster, it's bad taste and therefore bad for marketing. Also probably sounds a bit too Asian, I think it is a Japanese word right. Anything else with a T that relates to Tornado/Typhoon? Or any other weather type not used before?

Hellcat II would have been nice as official name, but maybe for the unofficial one we need something original. Thundercat, nice, reminds me of the Tomcat though, which makes me kinda sad. Maybe a navalised F-22 would fit that name. 

I don't like Foxhound II, the MiG-31 was codenamed Foxhound, so please don't call anything Foxhound unless it flies faster or as fast as the MiG-31!
