Saab offers Norway increased cooperation
Today, Saab handed over supplementary reports of the industrial cooperation offered to Norway. This is in conjunction with Sweden submitting a tender to Norway for 48 Gripen aircraft.

8/1/2008 | In conjunction with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) submitting a tender to Norway on the 28th April this year, Saab has also submitted proposals for industrial cooperation. Today, Saab handed over supplementary reports of these industrial cooperation’s to the Norwegian Ministry of Defense.


Saab has been in discussion with over 200 Norwegian SMEs and larger companies since the industrial cooperation was offered to Norway three months ago. Over 150 different cooperation projects have been defined and partners all across Norway’s provinces identified. Already in April Saab could guarantee industrial cooperation equivalent to 100 percent of the order value.

“Today, I can state that Saab and the Norwegian business community have identified cooperation projects to such an extent that we can now increase our commitment, regarding industrial cooperation projects, to at least 180 percent of the order value over a period of 10-15 years. Our discussions will continue,” says Åke Svensson, CEO and President of Saab, in a press release distribute to the market today.

Two of the companies that Saab offers industrial cooperation with were present during today’s handover - Natech and Simrad Optronics ASA. In conjunction with the handover, Saab arranged a media briefing at the Swedish Embassy in Oslo.

“We have received significant support from Norwegian companies, and we are delighted to be able to present two of the companies that we can offer increased industrial cooperation with,” said Hans Rosén, Gripen Campaign Manager in Norway, after the media briefing.

Whether you like the Gripen or not, you have to admit Saab has quite the business instinct!

I like the Gripen a lot and the newest version with more range then a Viper really pulls this fighter into a new level.  I do think it's important to lock in another sale or two before the F-35 begins heavy production.   It would be a perfect choice for India's 126 never ending aircraft bid as well even know some say it wouldn't.   It could replace three of India's aircraft types and give Pakistan's Vipers a run for their money as well.  Sadly it comes down to money and nothing is going to less costly then some version of a Mig-29.
