Turkish Aerospace Industries will upgrade Pakistani F-16s
June 29, 2009

ANKARA: Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has signed a contract to upgrade 42 F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets of the Pakistani Air Force (PAF). The tender had started in 2006 and had been closed in July 2008 with the designation of TAI as main contractor for this overhauling program.

Exclusive discussions between the Turkish industry and the Pakistani ministry of defense have started in early 2009 and ended on June 29 with the signature of the contract.

The deal, worth USD 75 million, states that the aircraft have to undergo upgrade works starting in October 2010 and that the operations have to be complete in 46 months from that date.

Previously TAI had already carried out a similar modernization task on F-16 fighters of the Jordanian Air Force, operation completed between 2006 and 2006. The industry, which is Lockheed Martin's industrial partner in Turkey, acquired expertise on this kind of works thanks to the upgrade program for the Turkish Air Force's F-16s fighters.

Any information on the upgrade? I suppose it's the Falcon Up package?
