What is Russia Thinking??

In the Oct. 27th issue of Aviation Week and Space Technology, there is an article titled "Back for More". It reports chinas' desired order for 24 SU-35 aircraft, and openly wonders if china intends to copy these planes. DUH.
Also mentioned in this article is a desire for what is described as "an abnormally high number of spare 117S engines"
Has Russia not learned from the past, or is this a simple case of wanting to help their communist brothers?
